Story Synopsis

Simon drives drunk despite being the designated driver for two of his friends at a party. He ends up in an accident with a mother and her child, killing the child and both of his friends. When he wakes up in the hospital, he can’t remember anything about the accident, party, or himself. His parents come to see him, but he doesn’t recognize them. He is released from the hospital weeks later and taken straight to a courthouse to begin his trial for vehicular manslaughter based on the defense that his loss of memory has made him a completely different person than the one he was before the accident. Throughout the trial, he constantly finds himself learning about the kind of person he used to be and discovering who he is now. His family, friends, and various experts are called to the witness stand to help and hinder his case. Outside of the trial, Simon meets and enjoys a friendship with a group of pre-teen kids that reciprocate his feelings. As the verdict from the trial nears, it is all Simon can do to find a way to either fix what he did or prove to himself that he isn’t the same person that everyone believes him to be.
